--------------------- 2005/06 Season ----------------------
.. REPORTS BELOW ..
PERRYWOOD FIESTA
June 10th
Perrywood held their first Fiesta on June 10th 2006 and there were teams from South Park (x2), Northfield, Epsom Eagles, Crowborough and one Perrywood Eagles team.
The boys did well (it was a while back and I can't remember the scores or the scorers) with two wins, two draws and one 1-0 loss. In the end the boys finished as runners up but overall the enjoyed the day.
Pictures are in the gallery.
May 15th
It was an early start on Saturday 15th May and I mean 7:15 early! The boys were playing in their first Fiesta away at Crowborough. The boys played five games of 10 minutes duration and the results were:
Crowborough 0 v Perrywood 2 (scorers: Benjamin, Joe)
Perrywood 0 v Southdown B 2
Perrywood 1 v Ridgewaye 1 (scorers: Matt Benjamin)
Southdown D 1 v Perrywood 1 (scorers: Matt (pen))
Perrywood 2 v Jarvis Brook 0 (scorers: Benjamin, Joe)
So won 2, drew 2, lost 1 not a bad result.
At this age its all about the taking part and not the winning, but I think if they kept scores the boys would have probably come in 2nd.
All the boys had a good day out and collected medals for taking part.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 3 v 0 Lingfield (Yellows)
April 22nd - League
Squad: James, Adam, Josh, Jack, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin,
Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Ben
For the second game of the day the boys seemed to be a bit more up for it and began pressing almost immediately, but the defence on the Lingfield Yellows held out. That was until George put Matt through on goal with an excellent pass and Matt finished it off superbly, and the first half finished 1-0.
The second half continued in the same way with the Eagles having all the ball and all the chances. Jim who was in goal again didn't have a save to make, and it wasn't long before the boys added to the score line. Matt started it with another goal, shortly followed by one taken by Benjamin, 3-0 the final score and a great final game of the season.
Man of the Match: Jack
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 0 v 0 Lingfield (Greens)
April 22nd - League
Squad: James, Adam, Josh, Jack, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin,
Goal Scorers:
It was a lovely warm and sunny day as the boys played their last league game away at Lingfield. The previous game against the Greens had been a tight one-one draw, and at the mid season break they were at the top of the table, so Lingfield were going to be a tuff nut to crack.
I am not sure if it was the heat or if it was because Lingfield were a strong team but the boys never really got up and running. Both teams had about the same amount of the possession but neither had any clear cut chances and in the end it finished a nil - nil draw.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 0 T.W Foresters (Spitfires)
April 8th - League
Squad: Ryan, Adam, Josh, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, Jack,
Goal Scorers: Ben (2)
Looking at the Foresters team for the second game it seemed that this would be a much tougher game, the boys were bigger, stronger and faster. Perrywood started and were playing uphill for the first half, even with all of this the boys were still doing the pushing, and had more of the chances, but the Foresters defence stood firm and their goal keeper made some good saves. They tried to catch us on the counter with some big clearances from their defence but our midfield and back line stopped them every time. Even though Ryan in goal was slightly busier than in the first game I think he only touched the ball a couple of times through out the whole match. The first half ended 0-0.
Josh and Ben again came of the bench for the second half and this time we were playing down hill. Josh threw down the line to Ben, who picked it up from within his own half and turned and ran at the foresters goal, slotting it past the diving keeper. The travelling fans were all jumping for joy as they knew that this was a tough game. A few minutes later with a similar run Ben made it 2-0 and a relieved smile came over the stand in managers face. Matt and Jack came back on as fresh legs to replace George and Joe and the game was sewn up, 2-0 the final score.
Afterwards the Foresters manager complemented us on our squad and recognised the boys as being a very strong team. I think that this is a great compliment from a big club that has around 40 boys in their under 7 group, and sums up the teams performance that I think personally was the best that I have seen . The only thing left was for the boys to collect their nice Easter eggs and for us to find the way home.
Man of the Match: Josh
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 6 v 0 T.W Foresters (Hurricanes)
April 8th - League
Squad: Ryan, Adam, Josh, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, Jack,
Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Jack, Joe, Josh, Ben
It was an early start as the convoy left Horley heading for Tunbridge Wells. When we arrived at the playing fields the rain had stopped and the sun was coming out. The Forester's pitches were on a steep slope not only up and down but also left to right. Matt won the toss and we decided to play down hill first with the Foresters having the kick off. The boys were soon off the mark, with Joe going on a run into the box and then passing to Matt who calmly finished for the first of the game. Shortly after the Foresters conceded a free kick outside their box, Jack was called into action and cracked a stunning free kick towards goal, going in through the keepers legs. Matt scored again before half time to make it 3-0 at the break.
For the second half Josh and Ben came off the bench and immediately from the restart Josh was involved, with a big kick over the defence which Joe ran onto and converted. A few minutes later and Ben was on the attack, and I looked up and saw Josh running up the middle and into the box. I was just about to shout at him to get back into defence when Ben crossed and Josh slammed it into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance - well done son :) . The boys kept running and running, and the midfield combination of Joe and George were up and down that hill all game. For the final goal Josh played another through ball for Ben to run onto and score easily past the keeper 6-0 the final score.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 4 v 1 Tunbridge Jnr (Albion)
February 25th - League
Squad: Ryan, Owen, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jack,
Goal Scorers: Matt (2), Jim (2).
For the second game, Ryan took over the Number 1 shirt from Owen, and had a similar quiet start to the game, not being called into action. The game went from end to end with no real chances falling to anyone. Some good pressure by the Eagles lead to a superb goal struck by Matt, and the boys were off the mark. Matt got stuck in from the re-start and bagged a second, the first half ended 2-0.
Into the second half, the Eagles were doing all the running and Jim added to the score sheet , but as the boys pushed forward they were continuely being caught out on the counter attack. Time after time Adam found himself being outnumbered and once again was forced into bringing a Tunbridge player down, they converted the penalty and the score was now 3-1 was. The boys didn't drop their heads and Jim latched onto a big clearance from Adam and calmly slotted in his second 4-1 the final score.
Man of the Match: Adam
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 10 v 1 Tunbridge Jnr (Wanders)
February 25th - League
Squad: Ryan, Owen, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jack,
Goal Scorers: George (3), Matt (3), Ben (4).
It was a nice dry bright day as the convoy left Horley heading off for Seal (who we had been paired with as the Home team). For the first game Owen started off in goal and James and Joe were on the bench. To be honest the goals came so fast, it was hard enough to remember who scored them let alone how they were scored. I think George got them started with the first one and then the flood gates opened. George scored another cracker and hopefully there will be video of it in the gallery. The "visitors" got one back with a penalty but the first half finished 7-1, Matt after getting his hat trick came off along with Adam who had been solid in defence. Tunbridge make a goal keeping change in the second half, but was not enough the stop Ben and George scoring a couple more 10-1 the final score.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 1 Ridgewaye
March 11th - League
Squad: Owen, Jack, Josh, Jake, George, Christopher, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin, Jim,
Goal Scorers: Benjamin, Joe
The second game of the day was against Ridgewaye. The Eagles had met Ridgwaye before and each time had been on the wrong end of the score line. The first half started well with the boys applying lots of pressure and were soon off the mark with Benjamin scoring a great goal. A few moments later Joe picked up a loose ball inside the Ridgewaye half strolled forward and then lashed it past the keeper. Ridgewaye rallied and started brightly in the second half with a series of attacks, one of which won them a penalty. The Ridgewaye player drove the ball hard and high and George (in goal for the second half) almost manage to parry it over but could only push it into the roof of the net. The manager made a couple of changes and shut up shop for the last few minutes. A well deserved and well played win.
Man of the Match: Jim
March 11th - League
Squad: Owen, Jack, Josh, Jake, George, Christopher, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin, Jim,
Goal Scorers: Jim, Benjamin, Jim
It was a cold and windy day in March when Perrywood welcomed Seal to Honeycrock lane. Owen was back between the sticks after being sidelined by illness for over a month. The visitors were new to the league and took a while to settle. Even with a change of line up Perrywood had the majority of the ball, but were unable to score in the first half - Owen didn't even get a touch. The second half started the same and it was not long before the hard work paid off. Jim scored the first, followed by one from Ben, before Jim scored another to cap off an excellent display.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 3 v 1 Tonbridge Jnr
February 25th - League
Squad: Ryan, Josh, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jack,
Goal Scorers: Benjamin, Matt, Joe
After the defeat in the first game the boys did not lose heart and came out of the blocks for the next match firing on all cylinders. Benjamin started the scoring, picking up the ball in his own half and then running at the opposition beating several tackles on his way to goal and neatly slotting it home, 1-0 to the Eagles. Seal playing one of their first games in the league battled hard and drew equal. This seemed to spur the boys on even further and within minutes of the restart they were back in the lead. Matt, who had been excellent all day cracked in an unstoppable goal - a well deserved reward for his effects. Late on Joe secured a great win, driving his shot low and hard across the goal into the corner. A much better game for all.
Man of the Match: Matt
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 0 v 2 Ridgewaye
February 25th - League
Squad: Ryan, Josh, Adam, Joe, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jack,
Goal Scorers:
It was a cold and windy day as the Eagles travelled away to Ridgewaye for the last game in February. The boys seemed to start slowly and it was the home team that got off the mark with a cracking shot into the top right corner, Ryan in goal could do nothing to stop it going in. The goal acted as a wake up call and the rest of the first half saw Perrywood have the majority of the possession. The second half started the same, Matt and Joe came off the bench and the Eagles were having the lions share, but the boys could not capitalise on it. They were up against a stronger more physical team who caught them out with a sucker punch goal, a somewhat speculative effort that found its way into the net from a way out.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 1 v 3 Three Bridges (Team B)
February 11th - Friendly
Squad: Ryan, Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jake, Jack, Greg, Christopher
Goal Scorers: Joe
The two games against Three Bridges were never going to be easy as the visitors had been in outstanding form in the league (both teams are joint leaders in the southern division of the C.D.J.L U7).
The second game pretty much followed the pattern of the first, but the boys had lost some of their drive.
Whether it was the heavy conditions, the defeat from the first game, or the fact that some were not 100% but the boys did not really get going. Three Bridges made them pay and came out worthy 3-1 victors.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 3 Three Bridges (Team A)
February 11th - Friendly
Squad: Ryan, Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Benjamin, James, Jake, Jack, Greg, Christopher
Goal Scorers: Benjamin, James
A couple of friendly games against Three Bridges gave the manager a chance to play all of the boys and give them all a good run out.
It was good to see Owen back at Perrywood after being very poorly for a while. He was not well enough to play and had to watch on from the sidelines as Ryan took up place in between the sticks.
The team formation took an unusual appearance to start and the boys needed time to get going. The game ebbed and flowed and it was Three Bridges that scored first. Both teams were award penalties and both teams failed to capitalise from them, the game could have gone either way in the end but it was Three Bridges that ended out on top.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 1 T.W FORESTERS (Spitfires)
January 21st - League
Squad: Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Ben, Jake and Jack
Goal Scorers: Matt, Joe
For the second game of the day, Joe took up the responsibility of goalkeeper. The Eagles again started brightly and made all the running and enjoyed the majority of the chances, but it was the visitors who took a shock lead.
With virtually their first venture into the Perrywood box Jack was adjudged to have brought down the advancing attacker, and a penalty was awarded. Although Joe managed to dive the right way and get his hands to the ball he was not able to stop it crossing the line.
The boys managed to keep their chins up, and in the second half continued to press for an equaliser. Josh took over in goal, with Joe moving into midfield, and Adam coming on to bolster up the defence. Jack almost made up for his earlier faux pas straight away but his shot hit the upright and the follow up was saved by the Spitfires keeper. Shortly afterwards the changes did pay dividends as Matt scored his second of the day.
The Eagles now had their tails up, and sensing another goal Dickie threw on an extra striker. After some good team passing and great running by Benjamin Joe scored the winning goal.
It was a great team effort and all the boys played extremely well.
Man of the Match: George
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 3 v 0 T.W FORESTERS (Hurricanes)
January 21st - League
Squad: Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Matt, Ben, Jake and Jack
Goal Scorers: Ben, Joe, Matt
For the first games of 2006 the Eagles entertained two teams from Tunbridge Wells Foresters. The Perrywood team was missing a few key players, with James and Owen poorly (get well soon!). So without Owen the keeper Jake had the honours of going between the sticks in the first game.
It was a great start to the year as the Eagles applied most of the pressure and were soon a goal to the good, courtesy of Benjamin. They boys managed to keep it up and were soon two ahead - with an excellent run and solo goal by Joe. The team look good and there was some good interchange of passes and Matt rounded off a great half with a third neatly slotted in from an acute angle.
Some changes were made at half time and they locked up shop with Jake not even having a touch in goal - a really great team effort.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 1 v 1 LINGFIELD YELLOWS
November 26th - League
Squad: Own, Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Jim, Matt, Ben, Jake and Jack
Goal Scorers: Ben
The second game of the day was against another team from the Lingfield club and Perrywood started very brightly. Even though playing against the slope of the pitch, the Eagles had the majority of the chances in the first half. The Lingfield goalkeeper made some good saves to keep them in it, while down at the other end Owen in the Perrywood goal hardly had anything to do. The second half continued in the same way with Perrywood making most of the running, but the Lingfield defence held out well. As we pushed forward to grab a winner we were caught on the counter by Lingfield and they made us pay with a well taken goal. The team didn't loose heart and got straight back into it and had a good couple of chance tharwted by the Lingfield GK, seconds later another break saw three Perrywood players through on the Lingfield goal and Ben calmly finished to grab a well deserved equaliser.
Man of the Match: Joe
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 0 LINGFIELD GREENS
November 26th - League
Squad: Own, Josh, Adam, Joe, George, Jim, Matt, Ben, Jake and Jack
Goal Scorers: Adam, Ben
Well it was a cold and windy day and the Eagles were playing away at Lingfield FC. The day didn't start of well when we were directed to the wrong sports ground, a quick phone call and we were back on track and found the correct place. It was the first outing for the Team with the new Kit and they really looked the part.
The first game against Lingfield started slowly and Perrywood found it a bit of an up hill struggle and had to dig in hard to hold off the Lingfield attack. In the second half the slope of the pitch favoured the Eagles and Adam scored a marvellous goal from the half way line. Shortly after Ben scored the second slotting in neatly past the keeper.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 2 v 0 TONBRIDGE JUNIORS
November 5th - League
Squad: Josh, Adam, George, Jim, Matt, Ben, Ryan and Cristopher
Goal Scorers: Ben (2)
Perrywood started well and everyone put in a solid performance. Lessons seemed to be learned from the earlier game and fittingly for November 5th the sparks were soon flying. Ben scored two great goals, one in each half. The second was a great break away goal that ultimately lead to Ben being awarded the Man of the Match award, with commendations to Matt for some great hold up play throughout the game.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 1 v 2 RIDGEWAYE
November 5th - League
Squad: Josh, Adam, George, Jim, Matt, Ben, Ryan and Cristopher
Perrywood were missing a few key players (Joe and Jack) and our GK as Owen fell sick on the day. Josh got goal duty and borrowed some gloves and with his shirt reversed started the match. Ridgewaye took the lead shortly into the first half with a well taken corner, a few minutes later they had a breakaway attack. Josh was quickly out of goal and tackled the striker, both went to ground, and as the ball broke lose the ridgewaye player was the first to his feet and tap the ball home. In the second half the Eagles game to life and had a host of chances and Matt scored a great goal to get one back.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 3 v 2 THREE BRIDGES
October 30th - Friendly
Squad: Jim, Jake, Jack, Owen, Josh, Greg, Ryan
Instead of the normal training session a friendly game was arranged with Three Bridges. After going behind in the first half Perrywood staged a come back and the match swung one way and then the other, and eventually the Eagles ended up on top at the final whistle with some great goals by: Jim, Jack and Owen.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 0 v 1 CROWBOROUGH
October 15th - League
Squad: Owen, Adam, Josh, Jack, Joe, Jim, Matt,George & Ben
Perrywood seemed to have the lions share of the possession and the best chances in the first half, only to be thwarted by a good Crowborough keeper. Crowborough were a well drilled side and it was a game that could have gone either way, and eventually went in favour of the opposition, but all had enjoyed the day out to Rusthall.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES 5 v 1 T.W FORESTERS
October 15th - League
Squad: Owen, Adam, Josh, Jack, Joe, Jim, Matt,George & Ben
Ok after the previous games had been postponed the boys were raring to go. We were playing at our partner teams ground in Rusthall and not even a long grassed pitch could slow the team down. Shortly into the first half Perrywood took the lead, and the goals kept coming - quick and fast. It was a while back now so I lost track of the goal scorers. The Foresters rallied and scored a late consolation goal but it was not enough to dampen the delight of a win on the first game out.
PERRYWOOD EAGLES P v P T.W FORESTERS SPITFIRES
